One rainy afternoon, my Mama and Lola asked me for some quick girl bonding over lunch. The fam has been visiting this place for almost a year already, and I thought of making an overview of this underrated food nook near our place. After some looong time since Chowking left at Kanto (the name of the place I'm talking about. legit! not jk), this big space has been rented again by Big Sisters Kitchen + Bar. At first, we were doubting if it can last long in our barangay since it is a new local restaurant. You know naman how picky Filipinos when it comes to food. Fortunately, it is still here, serving us with great dishes! So glad the owners took the risk and chose our location over the others. It's really all about taking chances, 'no? *woot woot* Unlike the other food choices around, Big Sisters Kitchenette offers the Philippines' favorites. It has actually been the go-to for its yummy variety of pancit, delicious, yet affordable viands, and its bestseller: halo-halo. The menu differs every day, so I expect to be disappointed at times when the meal/s I am craving is not there. Haha! What I love the most though, customers can opt for party size orders if gatherings or events are happening, especially the biglaan ones. This resto is super helpful with that kind of offer, I must say! Moreover, it also does parties in their function hall on the second floor. And maybe that's the reason why people have to love Big Sisters. Because generally, the food tastes like the ones we eat at caterings -- very masarap! Grateful because aside from McDonald's, Jollibee, KFC, and Andok's, we now have a healthier alternative to eat because of Big Sisters. And for that, let me sing Pinoy Big Brother's theme song lol idk why, too -- but yeah *insert pinoy, ikaw ay pinoy / ipakita sa mundo / kung ano ang kaya mo / ibang-iba ang pinoy / wag kang matatakot / ipagmalaki mo / pinoy ako, pinoy tayo! //* :))))) Big Sisters Kitchen + Bar J. Shaburi and Kintan Buffet, from the name itself, features two Japanese favorites in one restaurant. Its place is divided into two sections. From the entrance, the left part refers to the Shaburi shabu-shabu with the hotpot cookers; and the right side for the Kintan buffet with BBQ grills. We went for the yakiniku, but I heard that guests who availed shabu-shabu could personalize their hotpots according to their liking, instead of serving in big portions. They have soup choices of Regular, and Special Shabu; and Shaburi, and Special Wagyu. What a deal, right? Next time, next time! The Kintan buffet offers four options: Regular, Kintan, Premium Kintan, and Special Wagyu Buffet. We chose Kintan Buffet where we had the meat choices of pork belly, pork shoulder, pork sausage, chicken steak, dice tender, gyu tongue, tasty karubi rosu, and kintan karubi. We were also allowed to splurge in the central buffet where there are salads, gyudon, sushi, prawns, the do-it-yourself dip sauces, even UCC coffee and ice cream, and more! It was a 90-minute (but can extend if wanted some more) eat-all-you-can, also known as an hour and a half taste of heaven! It was my first time having J-BBQ! And I guess, there is not so much difference from samgyupsal. Same meat and BBQ process, same fun experience -- and I love them both! Aside from Filipino cuisines, I really (really, really, reaaally) love Japanese and Korean food! I think, J-BBQ and K-BBQ just differ from its marination and dipping sauces. Shoutout to the branch's manager who provided me and Dada a special dip from the chef! Heehee. And for me, yakiniku complements rice more, instead of lettuce like in samgyupsal. Though there are veggies in the station, too, the steak rice here is so good, really good! And oh, also, the grills. Because here at Shaburi and Kintan, it uses this Japanese technology that makes the smoke in their grills magically dissipate. Yes, my friend, still mabango and fresh even after the feast! Botchog nga lang the tummy 'cause swear, super sarap! I had no regrets that we changed our plans then. It even turned out to be a blessing in disguise 'cause I found one happy place on earth through Shaburi and Kintan Buffet!
