It’s getting hotter, and hotter, and hotter in the Philippines! Thanks to the summer season, Pinoys have more reasons to go out under the sun and try out cold beverages and icy desserts! One good suggestion: Rita’s Italian Ice. Having more than 600 branches, Rita’s is claimed to be the biggest Italian ice concept in the United States. And ever since it came in the country last 2015, my taste buds have been wanting to savor this ice custard happiness and taste what it is all about. Greeted cheerfully by the staff -- that is how they welcome their customers. Dada and I were happy to chitchat with them since we know they are that friendly. And being first-timers in this store, we asked the crew what the bestseller in their signature Italian ice. According to them, mixing the Italian ice into the frozen custards are the best and they call it as Gelati. Above all the flavors one can choose from, there are two that take over! They suggested the Banana-Vanilla and Strawberry-Chocolate combination. And so, that, those are what we had. The results? The desserts can be compared to an ice cream but… thicker because of the eggs that are added to the mixture. Plus, the Italian ice-making technique, of course. This dessert has finely shaved ice that gives a playful, good, sharp taste that tickles the tongue. It has bits of your chosen flavor as well, by the way. Dada and I tasted real bananas and strawberries in it. And I must say, it is healthy and freshly done. Can't wait to come back again with my friends and try other Gelati blends then! Or maybe the Misto Shake, Blendini, and Cream Ice, or frozen custard cakes and custard cookie sandwiches as well. Ohhh, already excited for that next time! I'm not gonna lie. My energy was so off these days no matter how hard I try to lift it up. I don't know what's going on with her, it just doesn't want to jive in. Problematic, I know! But thanks to Dada and his friends who turned this damn feeling around. He told me that the guys are planning for an outing because three of them are having birthdays this May. Oh God, you may judge me as overreacting and everything but seriously, I felt my heart beat again after hearing that news! It upped the flat line and saved me from this life! At least I had this one thing to look forward to! So excited about this, like asdfghjkl!!! And because of that, here is a throwback to the first time I met his friends... I know Dada's childhood friends. I also met the college buds. Eh lalo na high school kasi kami yun? Haha! But Dada's work pals? No. Not much. I heard a lot about them but, I never saw them personally -- until this day. That is one reason why I was excited when Dada invited me to their Christmas party. Thanks to Sir Leon, their boss who suggested bringing the girlfriends! Yup, that is what he said. Aww, right? Where can you find a boss asking his employees to bring plus one? Only here! But then I knew, there are other things to celebrate. Yes, it is a year-ender kainan. At the same time, it is for SB's birthday celeb, Kuya Ken's successful thesis defense, and TJ's approved thesis proposal. Choosing to spend such victories with us, I felt more than grateful for this lunch. I believe that it was a blessing in disguise that the group was not able to reserve at Vikings. We were then led to its baby, The Alley. No regrets though, we actually loved it! The Alley is a new eat-all-you-can restaurant made possible by the same great minds of the famous Vikings. Gotten from its name, it is a street style-themed buffet place with over 15 international food joints. It is a unique food hall because it serves more than the usuals -- it also caters to street food of all sorts, on all parts of the world! What impresses me more? The food are freshly done. They would only cook the dish you like when you ordered it. And no need to worry, they deliver it on your table. Yup, it lessens the hassle and food waste so win-win! And I must say, the steaks and desserts are my fave picks. SML! I would always remember this day where I went home with a big smile on my face after a looong time. Thanks to these wonderful people! I know inside me that I really felt good even if I was just there, nakikitawa lang sa usapan nila. Haha! But seriously, it really felt nice because it has been a while since I went out with friends. If they would allow me to say that we are friends already. Hehe. Really though, I feel sooo happy! It was a combination of good food and good company that created good memories. Plus, I had the best buffet experience today, I swear. Moreover, this is where I realized meeting new people and seeing the world as a bigger place can refresh the soul. Been looking for this sunshine and I found it with them. Truly grateful -- super! Additional thoughts: After giving some thinkings about it, Dada has the coolest job ever! Well... That's just for me. Eh... It does not feel like he is working at all. Because of course, he likes what he is doing. Plus, his environment is conducive. And his team acts as if they are a family! He has a boss who treats his research assistants as his children and colleagues who help one another just like brothers. This is so ideal but geez, it has happened in real life! Sila na! Sana all! Can I say anything more? Powerhouse this lab!!! Yeah, yeah... Siya na! Sila na talaga! Let me fade and cry here because life is unfair. Haha, kidd. But these guys deserve this anyway. I think? Haha! They have worked /hard/ for it. And so, I am v proud of these scientists and who they are becoming 💖 Kaexcite bigla. See you soonest! Yay, yay, yay 💖 The Alley (by Vikings) 2nd Level, Phase 2, U.P.
